I have had the enormous pleasure of spending the past school year working with Greater Richmond Fit4Kids, a non-profit here in Richmond whose mission is to help reduce the obesity rate in Richmond kids.  GRFit4Kids helps schools design and cultivate learning gardens and have put salad bars to great success in many Richmond area schools.  They train teachers to become specialists in making the school day more active and have kicked off an initiative this year to make recess more relevant and available in the school day.   With a mission towards creating opportunities for more movement and activity, and making fruits and vegetables more available, they are crushing it when it comes to helping foster healthier lifestyles for Richmond kids.

I want to highlight Greater Richmond Fit4Kids’ recent post on the recipe for a 95210 week.  What is a day of 95210?

9 hours of sleep

5 servings (at least) of fruits and vegetables

2 hours (preferably less) of screen time

1 hour (at least) of moderate to vigorous physical activity

0 sugar-sweetened beverages

Fit4Kids has a great plan for schools to take time to highlight each of these during a fun week of activities including a pajama day and a school wide food tasting.  Check it out here and help kids in your school understand the 95210 plan!
