We hear it all the time in the news….children don’t get as much physical activity as we did when we were young.  But why is that really important and what does it really do to impact not just our kids’ long term health but their ability to be strong learners?

My passion has become sharing the importance of movement and learning to anyone who will listen, particularly parents, teachers, administrators and community leaders.  I have been honored and humbled to spend this spring sharing with the following amazing groups:

Richmond Area Directors Conference in Richmond, VA, February 2017.  This conference is not just for the area directors of preschool and early childhood programs but also their teachers and staff.  In this one hour presentation we did a lot of movement to keep active brains.

Virginia Early Childhood Educators Conference, in Hampton, VA, March 2017.  More than 100 amazing teachers, administrators and directors attended this presentation.  100% of survey responders following the presentation indicated we should be invited to present again.  Others said:

“Best presenter so far…”

“Awesome!  Good speaker and great presentation!”

“She was very knowledgeable and delivers topic well!”

“Very passionate, enthusiastic and terrific material!”

The US Play Coalition Conference in Clemson, SC, April 2017.  This conference included playmakers from all over the world, including program builders, playground designers, researchers, educators and more.  The action packed group included board members of the US Play Coalition.

Move2Learn Summit, in Alexandria, VA, June 2017.  More than 100 Alexandria, Virginia community leaders and educators including both the current and former city Mayors.  I acted as one of two featured speakers, humbled to be sharing the title with Charlene Burgeson, Executive Director of Active Schools, which is a sub-initiative of Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move campaign.  This was the second Move2Learn Summit put on by RunningBrooke, a local non-profit whose aim is to bring more movement and play into the school systems and the Alexandria Community in general.  Founder Brooke Curran said: “You knocked it out of the park! Thank you for joining us and for your partnership to help more kids get active to spark learning in the classroom!”

Many of us are surprised by the direct link between movement and how we learn and I can guarantee that no matter how much you know about movement, you will learn something from what we have to share from information on how it positively impacts the classroom to ways you can incorporate it even on a rainy day.  We are scheduling fall presentations, workshops and trainings now.  If you want stronger learners, better behaved kids and a more successful school year get on our calendar now!
